Plenty of fresh trees for
One and all

🎄EYFS had a wonderful morning off exploring at Cedar Croft nurseries , they learnt about Grandis, White Pine and Blue Koreana Norway Spruce , Nordmann Fir and Noble Fir Christmas trees and were able to touch and smell the different varieties.
Some had beautiful aromas–the true smell of Christmas! Who knew there were so many varieties ?!
After impeccable behaviour around the plantation they were each given a little gift and went to warm up with shortbread and hot choc !
Massive thanks to Cedar Croft for a wonderful trip and we can all fully recommend a trip there to pick your tree ☃️

Visit to Cedar Croft Nurseries by St Tudy Pre-School

November 14th was a fun packed day for the children of the St Tudy Pre- School. They visited the Christmas trees at Cedar Croft Nurseries to see how these trees grow from seedlings into the wonderful range of Christmas trees available. Mark Orchard, the owner arranged a walk round for the Pre-Schoolers who had their “listening ears”.

The children learnt about the many types of trees and the differences from the size and shape, the needles and the smell and about the fun of Christmas.

Emma Sleeman, Chair of St Tudy Pre-School said:

“We had a very enjoyable day and would like to say a huge Thank You to Mark for being a wonderful host. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves out in the fresh air and the weather was kind. It was great to learn from Mark about the lifecycle from cones to seeds to fully grown Christmas trees and we have even planted our own so we can watch it grow over the years.

Thank you for their Christmas boxes, it was such a lovely thought to end a fantastic trip out, their little faces were smiling from ear to ear on the way back to Pre-School. We look forward to making this an annual event.”

"Cedar Croft Plants Take on Fire Supplies"

Mark Orchard of Cedar Croft Nurseries has handed over the fire supplies business to the new tenants of Cedar Croft Plants, based at the Nursery.

Pictured is Michael –John O’ Shea whose his wife Vicki has taken over the business which is adjacent to Mark’s Christmas Tree business. This fulfils a long-standing ambition for Vicki who has always wanted to have her own plant nursery.

“I have built the fire supplies side of my business over many years, but Vicki can offer customers more convenient opening hours and with the chilly weather forecast I think this is important for my customers. I would like to wish Vicki every success. I am getting ready to plant 500 Christmas trees and am expanding my storage business,” Mark said.

"Lauren has never had a Real Christmas Tree before!"

Lauren (20) says she is delighted to have won a fabulous Cornish-grown Christmas tree worth £100. It was planted by hand by Mark Orchard at Cedar Croft Nurseries in St Tudy in a competition promoted in the December edition of the prestigious

Lauren lives in St Issey and works at the Plume and Feathers, Mitchell. She came with her Dad and selected the tree that Mark dug and potted up straight from the ground.

It was grown from a sapling that was over 5 years old.

“The Tree Meaning of Christmas”

On Monday 2nd November 46 pupils of St Tudy C of E Primary School walked to the nearby Cedar Croft Nursery to meet the owner Mark Orchard.

Mark showed the pupils the Christmas tree plantation where he grows over 20,000 Christmas trees.

The pupils were given whistles and a Santa hat each and looked round the wide variety of Christmas trees. Mark talked about he studied at Duchy College and then, with his parents support, decided to develop his own plant and tree nursery. .

Mark’s enthusiasm is boundless and he wanted to help these pupils see the trees and enjoy the visit to his nursery.

“I wanted to grow plants and tree. I have always got immense satisfaction from seeing things grow, and helping people select the best plans for their gardens. Even from an early age when I was at Penrice School in St Austell I decided that is what I would like to do .I started this nursery when I was 18 with support from my mum, dad and dog Jess. I love the opportunity to show the wide variety of trees and what is involved in bringing the Christmas Trees to homes and businesses at Cedar Croft.”

Following the tour of the tree plantation, the pupils went inside to help make their own Christmas tree tags to decorate Mark’s tree.

As one of the teachers commented:

‘The children really enjoyed learning about the various Christmas trees. Thank you Mark and his team!’

‘Mark and his team were very knowledgeable about the different trees. The children had a great time making decorations and hanging them on the Christmas tree in the shop’
